[Shishimai experience workshop – participants’ special training for their first performance.]
The Shishimai workshop was started to allow participants, not only to watch a Shishimai performance, but to actually experience it and make it more appealing.
The Ando family and many other families prepared for their first performance with hardcore special training. -
[Pre-performance event: Mini Fair.]
This time we used the area from Buddhist Hall to Preaching Hall 2 for the event. In the lobby, we had much more space than usual, so we set up the cushion stacking game, shooting game and spinning top game among other things there. The games were so simple that anyone could enjoy them.

[The ever popular Candy Art event.]
Every year in the New Year performance, the Candy Art specialist Master Shunsuke Igarashi comes to do a demonstration and sell his products. He took requests from the audience and completed a piece in about 2-3 minutes. There’s no shortage of people who wish to see this amazing level of skill.

[Opening performance/The Birth of the Lion.]
The first performance was the Shishimai by The Spiritual Dance with Lion Mask preservation society. Lion cubs are born from two Ojishi in the story. It’s a magical experience no matter how many times it is watched.

[First Rakugo performance – Shochikukbai]
Even though the first Kodomoyose performance is usually Rakugo with pictures, as requested by Shinokichi, we started with a story without pictures. Shochikubai is very joyous and was selected since it is perfect for the New Year season, so please come and watch!

[Iromono – Violin mandan]
Among the many “Iromono”, a comedy show using a violin is quite a rare one. The children get very excited when they hear the various daily noises such as insect cries being made with the violin. It’s such an unusual violin performance that the audience laughed a lot.

[Second Rakugo performance – Kaen Daiko]
At last, the closing show was the famous performance “Kaen Daiko.” The children seemed to be able to focus completely on the performance due to the use of pictures. In the performance, he acted out the expressions and gestures of a husband who was embarrassed to have accumulated a large amount of cash.
