[First performance – Rakugo “Matsuyama Kagami”]

It had been a long time since we last had a program with pictures. I am not sure whether it was due to the pictures increasing the ease of understanding, but the atmosphere in the hall was really nice as everyone was calmly enjoying the Rakugo. Kotatsu is not one for intensely passionate Rakugo telling, but allows the audience to listen to the Rakugo in a cool and calm way. However, it seemed like the interest was well conveyed to the children.

    [Iromono – Wire, Accordion]

The time with Oshidori was encased in a comfortable atmosphere with gentle laughter. The wire art was surprising, Mako’s loving come backs were delivered with a smile and the accordion was enchanting. The whole time I was gently smiling. I think it was a fun time. Some of the comments from the questionnaire were things like, “Oshidori was awesome!” . I was thrilled by Mako’s rhythmical accordion and Ken’s bright smile. I want to see it again.

[Second performance – Rakugo “Snake Grass”]

Even when I went to greet him in the dressing room, he talked to me with a gentle smile. He kept the same smile and light talking style even when he’s on stage. When the audience listens to his work they can’t stop laughing. Perhaps only something Master Kenko can do is keep the tempo of this rhythmical story, while having the ability to feel the atmosphere so he makes no mistakes in his story. The program that was selected is “Snake Grass”. The scene where he eats the sticky rice cake is funny. I was able to laugh because Manjū is not scary. I don’t think it is an overstatement to say the program is fascinating due to the body language and use of the voice more than the funny story. Many people commented in the questionnaire that “The Master was just as expected. It was such a wonderful performance.
